Since having a stroke at the age of 53 I have been experiencing physical and mental impairments. I have found art to be a great therapy, helping me with both my physical and mental health issues, and I feel I can now be considered as a disability artist. Currently I am enjoying trying a number of styles and media although I have a passion for photography, jewellery making, sketching and watercolour painting. I have also enjoyed some small scale sculptural work.
I am now chair of the Celf Able group of disabled artists who meet monthly to support each other and develop ideas. The group has boosted my self esteem and given me confidence to try new art forms.
My own art work tends to be based on one or more of my photographs which then provide the inspiration for me to produces pieces in a range of materials. I have produced a series of pieces based on my photograph of a’ Rusty Bolt’ and also my ‘Out of Africa’ series which was inspired by a visit to my daughter. My current work is based around photographs I took at St Beuno’s Church in Bettws Cedewain.
